More Hanoi

Next day the first thing we saw was a rescue and fire demonstration.  Much enjoyed by adults and children alike.

                                              Lovely fresh vegetables.

Cha ca, a delicious traditional dish from Hanoi.

Traditional Wedding clothes in a Hanoi's very interesting Women's Museum.

Maison Centrale is the old prison.  This prison was built by the French to house political prisoners, and it was also used to hold captured USA airmen during the Vietnam war.  They nicknamed it the "Hanoi Hilton".

This sewer was used as an escape route by Vietnamese imprisoned by the French.

The Hanoi Opera  House based on the old Opera House in Paris.

A nice old house near our hotel in Hanoi.  The view is somewhat spoilt by wires.

Vietnam 2013

Hanoi 24 May 2013

Arrived safely to the heat of Hanoi after 3 flights and a long stopover at Singapore.
Since we have seen the blockbuster sights we decided to wander the streets and poke our noses into the lesser known sights.

Temple alongside Hoan Kiem Lake sparkling after a heavy but short rainstorm.

Huc ( rising sun) Bridge, constructed in Classical Vietnamese style, connects a little island with the Ngoc Sun Temple to the shore of Hoan Kiem Lake.

Old Quarter street scene - negotiating the price of vegetables.

This is the family vehicle.

A linemans worst nightmare.

Buy your hats here. We are getting the hard sell.
