Munich, Germany 6/9/2009
Munich was a wonderful surprise to us. We were amazed by the different architectural styles, the boulevards, the gardens and the number of museums. Unfortunately we only had a day and a half here and barely scratched the surface. We have been able to see a lot from the hop on hop off bus tour, but we will need to come back to see things properly. We also spent quite a bit of time walking around the old town and shoe shopping for Joy.
Of course we had to have dinner at a beer house. We went to Lowenbraukeller and it was a surprisingly good meal. We had local German specialties like knuckle of pork with sauerkraut and potato dumpling and corn beef with mustard sauce, horseradish and potatoes. Fortunately a friendly English speaking German man at the same table helped us choose. We saw some people in traditional frau costumes and in lederhosen. All the shop windows were full of these clothes ready for Octoberfest. Apparently six million visitors come to Munich for it. Octoberfest would be great to see, but the crowds might be a bit off putting.
Glad you liked Munich. Chris and I had only a short time there, but thought it was great. We would also like to return. Enjoying your blog. Best wishes. Judith and Chris
