The coach dropped us off at Union Station, another of those railway stations that are more like a posh hotel.
From the station we walked up the 16th Street Mall, chocker block with restaurants, shopping and lots of other things of general interest. Our first stop was this building which houses the famous Tattered Cover Bookshop, a bookshop like no other.
Inside there are attractive, tempting nooks and cranies for reading everywhere, not to mention the cosy coffee shop of course. Many people looked like they were intending to spend the day there.
Further on down the mall buffalo's breed.
The D and F Tower, the front of an old department store.
This is an area just off the 16th Street Mall where anyone can play all sorts of free games.
Further along you can do your thing on the piano.
The State Capital Building with it's golden dome glowing in the sunlight.
Everything is made from materials sourced in Colorado, Including this lovely stairwell.
From the Capital building you get a good view of the City and County Building.
The amphitheatre.
The controversial Denver Art Museam. They reckon it's the Sydney Opera House on speed. For us it was just a wonderful, innovative gallery where everything was beautifully displayed. We spent many hours there and ended up joining their Last Friday Evening of the month do, with exhibitions, talks, displays, complementary food and more.
This is how they clean it.
They had an excellent exhibition by sculptor john DeAndrea. Linda 1983, life sized and so realistic. There was also a Joan Miro exhibition.
There were a whole series of American grasslands by painter Karen E Kitchel. We loved the depth in them. It was layer upon layer of detail.
These were weird, Fox Games 1989, Sandy Skoglund.
There was a lot of interesting Native American art.
Woven baskets.
A great way to carry your baby.
Beautiful way to keep your feet warm.
Norman Rockwell, The Stagecoach, 1966 for the remake of the classic film.
Something more traditional.
One of the best things at this gallery were 'studios' all over the place with materials for hands on art creations for adults and children alike.
What an interesting place Denver is!
