Washington Memorials and Monuments

Bill in front of the Washington Monument.

Joy in front of the World War 11 Memorial, with the Lincoln Memorial in the background.

World War 11 Memorial.

Remember the motor bikers, Rolling Thunder?  They left this at the WW11 Memorial.

Lincoln Memorial.

The man himself.

Columns of the Lincoln Memorial.

View of the Potomac River from the Lincoln Memorial.

Korean War Memorial  - rather spooky.

The back of the Dr Martin Luther King Jr Memorial - the mountain of despair.

Out of this comes a stone of hope.

The Franklin Delano Roosevelt (Teddy) Memorial.  It consists of four outdoor rooms, each representing a one of his four terms of his presidency.

Statues of men seeking work during the depression.  This is when Roosevelt introduced the "New Deal" and many of the places we have enjoyed on this trip were built as a result of this, for example, the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Our favourite memorial, the Thomas Jefferson Memorial on the tidal basin.

The memorial from the side.  You can see the statue of Jefferson between the columns.

Thomas Jefferson inside the memorial.
