Aspendos and Perge to Antalya

The beautifully preserved Roman amphitheatre in Aspendos was built around AD 126. It is still used today.

Decorative features on a wall.

This is Elle, a professional singer who was on our tour. She sang for us at the theatre and it projected all around the walls. The stage building behind features carved notches intended to hold statues.
The seating for 12,000.

Backstage.

After the theatre we went to the extensive ruins of the Hellenistic/Roman city of Perge.
Remains of the Hellenistic Gate.

Roman Baths with hypocaust (underfloor heating) systems face a colonnaded agora.

The water channel leads from a fountain on the acropolis hill down the Main Street. It was used by the shops etc and helped cool the air in summer.

That evening we arrived in Antalya for a two night stay.
