Bursa

Bursa was the centre of the silk trade in the 15th and 16th Centuries, so first stop was the silk market where everyone bought scarves.
The Grand Mosque in Bursa, built in1396, is very striking inside, mainly gold, black and cream. There are no images of idols or relics in Mosques, so they decorated in other ways.

Recent converts?

Beautiful stained glass windows.

Facilities for ablution before prayer.

Some of the buildings are very colourful in Bursa.

The main portal of the Green Mosque, an Otterman mosque commissioned by Mehmet 1 in 1412.

This was the first Otterman Mosque where tiles were used extensively.

The Green Tomb of Mehmet 1.

The sultan's magnificent sarcophagus.

The colours are fantastic.

The quaint village of Cumalikizik has traditional wooden houses.

This woman is certainly a hard worker.

Inside one of the houses.

The big meatball ( believe it or not).

Entrance to the burial mound said to house the tomb of King Midas, at Gordion.

Inside the mound the tomb is made from wood.

Ceramics in the Gordion Museum.

A Hellenistic vase.

Yes we're on a tour!
