Riding out of Lucca and around the walls.

We hired a bike and rode out of Lucca along the Serchio River and back while Jenny and David continued to explore Lucca.

It was mainly bike path and quite flat.

The little town of Monte San Quirico.

We went past various small farms. This seemed to be a great way to grow zucchinis, training them up poles.

Go Bill!

Back into Lucca through one of the gates, Porta Santa Maria. The greatest thing about Lucca is that it is completely surrounded by a Renaissance wall of about 4 kilometres in length which is like a town park and you can walk or ride it.

Riding around the walls gave us splendid views of Lucca.

The walls are 12 metres high, so they have been great protection for Lucca for 2000 years.

Along the path on top of the walls.

Overlooking the Botanical Gardens.

View of a house from the top of the walls.

A palazzo and garden.
