Segovia, the start of the first bike ride in Spain. 16-22 September

We flew out of Nice into Madrid and then by train to Segovia, arriving late afternoon. It didn't give us much time to see the sights of this fabulous medieval town, like the beautiful alcazar, but that was OK as we had been there previously with Nicholas.
The first thing we did was to meet up with Judith, Dan and Debbie, who had arrived separately from all over the place. First sangria, yum!

Our hotel, La Casa Mudejar, was a lovely old characteristic place just off the main square - a good start to the tour.

Sweet balcony.

Dinner time at Jose Maria, THE place for the area's specially suckling pig. Bill and Dan peruse the menu.
We chose this poor little suckling pig, 21 days old, with a certificate on it's leg.
It was chopped with a plate. Actually it was served with no vegetables and after the first few delicious mouthfuls we began to find it rather rich and very salty.  No more poor suckling pigs for us.

The Segovian Cathedral, built in the Renaissance, lit up for the evening.
This spectacular 14 kilometre Roman Aqueduct was built by Emperor Trajan 2000 years ago, to channel water from the Rio Frio to the city. It is 29 metres high and actually operated until the late 19th century. It was constructed of granite blocks with no mortar.

Debbie glowing in the golden light.

An interesting window display.

Next morning, all decked up and ready to ride.

One last shot of the aqueduct and we're off.
