Day trips to Tourrettes-Sur-Loup, Vence and St-Paul de Vence
Mural outside the school at Tourrettes-sur-Loup.
View of the artisan's village of Tourrettes-Sur-Loup.
One for Tom. This Tourette’s is known as the 'the city of violets' and we bought a violet ice cream. It had crystallised violets on top and was surprisingly yummy.
David and Bill by a town fountain.
Next stop was Vence and it's cathedral, where we saw this Marc Chagall mosaic of Moses in the Bullrushes, 1979.
Jenny tries out a child's horse!
We also saw the beautiful Chapelle du Rosaire, build by Henri Mattise, between 1947 and 1951 to thank a Dominican nun who nursed him through an illness. The sunlight filtering through these stain glass windows is beautiful.
The grounds of the chapel.
This is the classic medieval perched village of St Paul de Vence, the most visited village in France.
It is full of tourists and dozens of art galleries, with exceptional art works.
It's lovely to stroll down the medieval lanes.
The views are stunning.
These people looked stunned!
Their church is simple and attractive.
